Candy Corn Flower

Flowery inspiration for "Candy Corn Flower" Haiku poem. I didn't know the real name of this flower until Homesteadbound clued me in. It's called Indian Blanket, & it's the state wildflower of Oklahoma. Blooms summer to late fall.

Gail - this was really cute! The best Halloween hub I have seen so far! I loved the video. The pictures were great and so were the quotes.

That Indian Blanket flower really does look like candy corn! That was a good one!

Hi Homesteadbound,

So glad you enjoyed this little Halloween treat. You are such a fountain of knowledge- I knew the flower looked like candy corn but had no idea what it's real name was- Indian Blanket, such a pretty name! Now I was able to look it up on Wikipedia and learn it's the state wildflower for Oklahoma and blankets the ground for miles along roadways.

Thanks for the kind words about the hub.

Hi Sunnie,

So glad you liked it. Hope you have a blast trick or treating with Xavier. It's always fun when you have a small child to use as an excuse to go trick or treating (smile).

Thanks for all your support and encouragement.

Hi Mckbirdbks,

Loved your clever and fun comment. They're knocking on my door, too, and who knows maybe Sunnie Day will show up all the way from Texas with Xavier- she could fly him here on her Good Witch Broom! Wouldn't that be the greatest of treats?

Thanks for coming and hope you enjoy the rest of the evening.

Thanks so much b. Malin,

I didn't think of the extra benefit of this treat being non fattening but that's definitely a bonus. (smile)

Just finished reading your Adam and Eve Interview hub and loved it. A funny yet all too true take on human nature then and now- some things never change, do they?

This was so fitting for tonight! I don't have small children anymore, and I really miss taking them around to "trick or treat".

Me too, Mary, but it's still fun to see them come to the door all dressed up. I saw some really adorable costumes on the little ones who were out tonight.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Hi Oceansnsunsets,

So glad you enjoyed it. I finished it a few minutes before the first trick or treaters arrived, so I laughed when I read your Halloween Hub that you'd just finished in between the arrival of your neighborhood's kids.

Your hub made me smile! I love the candy corn poem and the beautiful photograph of the flower! What a perfect ending to the Halloween season. The little fairy tale about puppy love was cute, too! Mmmm...I think I'll fall in chocolate later... Thanks for the smiles this morning!

Hi Stephanie,

So glad it made you smile. They had the annual Rehoboth Beach pet parade on the boardwalk this weekend and the pets were all dressed up so cute and on their best social behavior. What a fun day it was but my camera takes about 30 seconds between shots and I missed alot of good opportunities to take pictures during the parade.

Flowers are so much easier because they stay in one place. (smile)

Dear Gail,

I am catching up on the ghoulish "tricks" around HubLand and this was UP there and FAB, if ever a collection of Halloween favorites was compiled...

LOVE your assortment of "treats" for us. Your pictures are adorable and your haiku is awesome! Hugs, mar.

What a beautiful flower and what a fun hub. Those dogs dressed like their owners are amazing. We Brits don’t do anything like that - or at least I’ve never seen it. Maybe Scottish dogs are too reticent.

I’m definitely pressing the funny button.

Oh, and I nearly forgot, that song always reminds me of my friends doing a skit a show at school, so it brought back good memories.

Happyboomernurse profile image

Happyboomernurse Hub Author 6 months ago

Hi Melovy,

Am so glad you liked my attempt at being light-hearted. I'd just seen hundreds of pets dressed up at the Sea Witch Festival and the Halloween trick or treaters were coming to my door as I wrote this so it was lots of good inspiration.

The thing that amazes me about the pet parade is how well behaved all the pets are. They actually seem like they love prancing around in their costumes!

I always loved that silly song, too. It would have been an "oldie" when you did your skit but I remember hearing it when it first came out! It was fun and had its own dance.

Thanks for pressing the funny button and for reading so many of my hubs. I greatly appreciate your support and know that with your kids still young your free time is limited.

Hi again Happyboomernurse,

I was curious about when Monster Mash was out first so had a look. It was apparently banned from radio in the UK in 1962 (according to Wikipedia for being too morbid) and then was rereleased here in 1973, so it would be from that time that I remember it.

Happyboomernurse profile image

Happyboomernurse Hub Author 6 months ago

That's really interesting. I didn't realize it was banned in the UK. The release I remembered from childhood was the 1962 version.

Your hubs are always amazing and never disappoint.

I have added two new folders for bookmarking ;one is' My Special Hubs' and the other 'My Special Poems'

Guess where this one is going???

Take care Gail and here's to so many more hubs for us both to share on here.

Oh Eddy,

You always brighten my day. Thanks so much for looking through my old hubs and finding this one about Halloween.

I'm on my way out to see a St. Patrick's Day Parade (it's celebrated early in Hilton Head). The sun is shining and it's sure to be a great time for the 20,000 people who are expected to attend.

Hope you, too, are having a lovely weekend. I so enjoyed your hub about the sea this morning.
