An Old Fashioned Yuletide Stroll
The charming posters for Historic Milford Delaware's Sixth Annual Holiday Stroll are all around town at places like the library, city hall, riverwalk and most of the local shops and the posters contain one of the most beautiful four letter words in the English language- free. Everyone, whether they live in Milford or not, is invited to an old-fashioned celebration of the yuletide season to enjoy free horse-drawn carriage rides, costumed strolling carolers and the Milford Community Band playing Christmas music. Visitors can stroll the three-block downtown district and enter the decorated shops, restaurants, bakery and art galleries. Some shops will have complimentary seasonal treats including hot cider and chocolates, giveaways and raffles. All will have hard to find gifts or gift cards that can be purchased for that special someone or even for your special pet. Entertainment will be going on inside the shops and on the sidewalks including bell ringers, barbershop quartets, bands and faculty/student performances at the Music School of Delaware. Even if you can't come in person you can take this pictorial tour and enjoy some of the sights and sounds of this most wonderful time of year.
Dolce's Display Case
The Dolce' Bakery
One of the sweetest stops in town is the Dolce' Bakery, Coffee, Pastries and Ice Cream Shop. Dolce' will be giving away free samples from their Christmas Dessert Menu. All of their pastries are made from scratch by owner/baker George Carroll. Just looking at the display case made my mouth water. If it's cold order some hot coffee, tea or chocolate and sit down and rest for awhile and don't forget to take some goodies home or place an order for your own upcoming holiday celebration.

The Fur-Baby Boutique
The Fur-Baby Boutique invites pet owners to bring their pets in to say hi to their dog mascot who will be dressed as Alfie the Elf- providing of course, that Alfie is co-operative and good natured about wearing his costume the night of the stroll. Free wheat treats will be given to visiting pets and of course more treats can be purchased to bring home. The Fur-Baby Boutique sells many novelty gifts for pets and their yummy holiday treats come in snowman, snowflake and other holiday styles that look so good they make even a human's salivary glands kick into overdrive.

Teddy Bear Christmas Exhibit at Milford Museum
The Milford Museum will be open during the holiday stroll and will be featuring a "Teddy Bear Christmas" exhibit, a Victorian parlor scene with children's toys and a special display of unique miniature lamps. Kids will love the large Christmas tree covered in Teddy Bears! Visitors of all ages are encouraged to come in and learn more about Milford's history. The town was built around the Mispillion River which was home to two centuries of shipbuilding that made Milford a center of the maritime industry. Model ships celebrating that history can be seen in the museum.

Milford Riverfront Theatre
The Milford Riverfront Theatre invites strollers to stop in for hot drinks and tours of the theatre from 5 to 7 p.m. and to return at 8:00 p.m. to watch the Second Street Players perform "Humbug," which is a modern twist of the Dickens classic.
The theatre will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items that will benefit Casa Francisco.
Milford City Hall
Milford City Hall will host a holiday open house that includes free refreshments. The Milford Band will be giving a free holiday performance from 6:00 to 6:30.
The horse drawn carriage rides which are being sponsored by Dave Wilson of Wilson's Auction will be doing pick-ups and drop-offs from the circular drive in front of city hall.

The carolers would expire from the heat in a minute down here in Queensland, OZ. Certainly no White Xmas, maybe that's why it seems so beguiling (my wife, who's Canadian, says be careful what you wish for..).

No chance of the carolers expiring from the heat tonight. It was about 50 degrees outside. It is possible to get snow in Delaware this time of year especially at night, but pretty rare before Christmas. And if we do get snow it tends to be 1 to 4 inches and will melt within a few days. Of course there are exceptions and we can get clobbered sometimes!

Me thinks I could hang out at the Dolce Bakery and the Fur Boutique quite nicely - I may be in the car and on my way by morning - oh I can only dream! What a lovely place to be and would wish this upon anyone trying to decide on what to buy for the holidays.
We make it so tedious and so stressful but really it should be what it is intended to be - just joy at being alive and having people in our lives to share the holidays with. Wish I was there~

When I was a kid my family moved quite frequently and I never felt connected to a particular "hometown" which is why I think that I appreciate the spirit of Milford which is a town that is growing and revitalizing itself. The historic section is lovely but we also have a new hospice center, veteran's home and Boy's and Girl's Club that have all been built since we moved here a decade ago so I feel very blessed to live here.

So do I. In small towns, we get to know just about everyone, so the secret to getting along is to be friendly to everyone, but mind your own business and stay far away from the gossip.

We're more likely to get shine this time of year, but snow has been known to fall down early on rare occasions.
The Riverfront theatre is wonderful and we've caught a number of plays there and never been disappointed. There's nothing like live theatre especially in a cute little playhouse.

You are right about the Holiday tips. I think readers can see the cheesecake photo and then buy or make a homemade cheesecake, cut it into individual slices and using the photo as guide decorate each slice as a Christmas tree. Also other communities could get ideas for Christmas tree fundraisers so thank you for pointing that out.
I used to live near West Point in New York State and have relatives who live in CT. Yes, the Northeast is beautiful at Christmas especially when covered by fresh snow.
