Rich Dad Cashflow for Kids: A Fun Board Game About Money
82Teaches 6 to 12 Year Olds Money Concepts
So, you think your kids are too young to learn about money, investments and debt? Or you don't know how to begin teaching them about these things or doubt they'll be interested if you try to broach these topics with them? Well, think again, because the board game, Rich Dad Cashflow for Kids is a fun way to teach complex financial concepts to kids aged 6 to 12.
Designed by Robert T. Kiyosaki, an author and investor famous for his Rich Dad Poor Dad series of books, the game's goal is to teach young players how to become "Cashflow Kids." The game also teaches the basics of a financial statement (income and expenses) and a balance sheet (assets and liabilities), so that players quickly learn that if their expenses exceed income, they won't have money to pay for other things. For instance, if they buy jet skis on a credit plan it will strain the monthly budget and there won't be money left for investments which can yield long term passive income instead of short term debt. Kids who repetitively play the game have fun learning how to generate enough investment income to cover their expenses, so they can enjoy the fruits of passive income. And they learn financial skills that will be necessary to become the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Set Aside a Game Night With Your Kids
This game is a great family activity and kids will look forward to playing it on a family game night. If aunts & uncles or grandparents live nearby, be sure to invite them, too. Your kids can learn strategies from watching the way the adults play along with them, and the kids may even quickly surpass their seniors' financial skills if game night becomes a weekly or monthly event.
When the game is over, you can serve a healthy bed-time snack such as frozen yogurt parfaits or sundaes. Let the kids put on their own toppings from an assortment of chopped nuts, raisins and fruit. This way you'll be modeling and teaching good nutrition habits as well as money habits.

Great hub and something I will have to share with my daughter and my grandson. I think the sooner the better that they can learn the value of a dollar, the better they will be in handling their finances later..thank you for a wonderful informational hub.
Take care,
Sunnie
Congratulations on your HubPages interview!
Well done!
I know!! I cant get over the fact that someone I kow was interviewed ad I am basking viaripusly in your gloryt!! gives us all aboost to see someone we love with accolades!! much love to you!!
I never did teach the kids about money but somehow the STILL knew when payday was!!!!!!!!!!!
Voted up and awesome. Had no idea that there was a game after the book but what a great concept. I will be sure to add this to the christmas list for my grandkids. :)
BTW-I could not hit your link on the forum and follow it here????
This looks like a wonderful game to teach kids about handling money. I would have loved to play it with my children when they were young! I'm a great believer in family game nights, and when the games can also teach valuable skills, it's a bonus! Very nice hub!
Right. My grand kids seem to know sometimes before I do.
Great hub! Money -- one of the few things in life that is intricately tied to our feelings and emotions, even if we think it isn't. I have all sorts of money issues that I grew up with (including the "thinking poor" mentality that Will Smith mentioned in the video clip). I have tried to undo some of that and to teach my kids better skills and better attitudes than I grew up with. The jury is still out, though, on whether I was successful.
Voted up and useful.
Great hub. I can honestly say that I wish my mother had done this for me when I was that age...we played games together regularly, but I didn't learn many solid money management skills, and believe me, I'm paying the penalties today. :)
I love the Will Smith on Oprah video:) I haven't read the book. I checked out the website just now. Interesting. Thanks for the ideas. In 5 years I'll go to work on my granddaughter! She's going on 1 now.
oh she does! I see her 2-3x/wk usually. I almost missed her tonight because I was late leaving work. we'll be busy - violin lessons, museums..... :)
Great hub about teaching kids about money. It seems, in America, talking to kids about money is as painful as the birds and bees discussion. Nice game.
HP Nurse, excellent hub, with great information! I think this is such a good idea, because money concepts are so hard to teach to kids, but so vitally important. The 6-12 age seems to be just the right age to start focusing on these concepts. The great thing about this game is that you never have to tell them they are learning!
I will look into this one for my nieces for birthdays, or Christmas. Great hub!
Too late--my kids are adults & I'm a grandmother--the eldest are high school already, and not interested in games with the family, as it was not a tradition we started.
The younger ones won't be introduced, either, as their mother (my youngest) calls all games of this nature "bored" games. She hates them & always has.
Interesting concept, though...if I had it to do over again, as they say...I'd surely let the kids in on the checking account facts and let them figure out the bills vs. income. That would hopefully avoid the howls of protest when told "we can't afford to buy xxx game or toy."
Great hub! I agree that kids should learn the value of money as early as possible. I'm linking this to mine about board games. Thanks for sharing!
I read Rich Dad Poor Dad over 10 years ago and I love Kiyosakis concept for children. Very important and v necessary to teach our kids applicable and real life skills that they will use every day out there in the world. And the earlier, the better.
Thanks for sharing this hboomer.
Up/ and v useful
Great information. Teaching kids about money is one of the best things we can do for them. This is great. I think Monopoly is also a good game to open up the door to learning about money and investing.
Good hub, this is great advice. I love Robert Kiyosaki's books, however I did not think about sharing his lessons with my son. My son is only 14, hopefully it is not too late.
if I play Cash Flow 101 will it help me keep my check book straight
I have a lovely tee shirt "I cant be overdrawn! I still have checks left!"
man I crack myself up :)
sounds like a great game, I'll have to check it out. I think it's terrible that money management isn't taught in schools, I suppose we are all just supposed to be able to figure it out on our own.
Like you, I used to love playing Monopoly with my family when I was young. This Rich Dad Cashflow for Kids sounds like a winner! Never too early to teach kids the value of a dollar!

What a great game! I have read Rich Dad, Poor Dad but I didn't realize that he had a game to teach kids about money. That is now definately on my "to get" list when my kids are a little older. I love that there is a website and I will be checking that out for my students. Great job!
